Position Summary
Ava is seeking to hire a part-time Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Analytics Intern to join our growing Analytics team, reporting to the Senior Manager of Analytics and Machine Learning. This role is ideal for someone excited about working with distributed energy resource (DER) data, supporting program operations, data science, and building scalable analytics pipelines. The Intern will collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Analytics and Salesforce, and Local Development to support Ava's portfolio of DER programs, including managed smart home charging, EV charging infrastructure (Ava Charge), smart home battery and eBikes.
This is a paid, part-time internship scheduled for two days per week (16 hours total). The internship is expected to begin in January 2026 and continue through June 2026.
Position Details
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Analytics, Data Mining & Dashboard Development
- Conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA), data mining, and statistical assessments on DER datasets including Gridshare smarthome charging and battery API data, AMI data, EV charging behavior, program participation trends, and invoice verification.
- Use existing data pipelines and curated datasets in BigQuery to develop insights that improve DER program performance, customer engagement, and operational efficiency.
- Build clear, reliable, and user-friendly dashboards and reporting products that translate complex data into actionable insights for stakeholders within EAS and the Local Development teams related to smart home battery and charging, Ava Charge and eBike.
- Collaborate with analysts and engineers to validate data definitions, refine metrics, and ensure consistency across dashboards and analytics tools.
- Communicate insights through visualizations, presentations, and written summaries that inform strategy and decision-making across Ava.
- Continuously evaluate existing analytics workflows and identify opportunities to streamline, automate, and enhance reporting using established GCP infrastructure.
Data Quality & Governance
- Establish and uphold data governance, quality checks, and metadata tracking for DER datasets.
- Contribute to documentation and internal standards that ensure consistency across analytics workflows.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science or a related data / analytics-intensive field.
- Hands-on experience in data intensive work.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL (BigQuery experience preferred).
- Based in California.
Compensation
The position is compensated at $35 per hour for 16 hours per week, for an estimated total compensation of approximately $13,440 over the duration of the internship.
Location and Working Conditions
Ava's headquarters is located in Oakland, near BART. The team operates in a hybrid environment that includes both in-office and remote work. For this role, we are open to either a hybrid or fully remote arrangement. Only applicants that reside in California will be considered.

Licenses/Certificates
Possession and continued maintenance of a valid class C California driver's license or the ability to provide alternate transportation and a safe driving record.
