Overview:
The Vice President of Power & Utility Infrastructure is responsible for leading the firm’s strategy for securing and developing power infrastructure to support large-scale data center developments. This person will identify and advance power opportunities, build relationships with utilities and transmission operators, and guide clients through the complex process of securing reliable and scalable electrical infrastructure.
The Vice President of Power & Utility Infrastructure operates at the intersection of data center development, utility engagement, and power infrastructure planning, helping clients identify locations with viable power capacity and develop strategies to secure power for hyperscale and AI-driven facilities.
This role serves as a senior leader within the organization and is responsible for developing relationships with utilities, regulators, and infrastructure partners while advising clients on interconnection strategies, transmission infrastructure, and power delivery solutions.
The Vice President of Power & Utility Infrastructure works closely with internal development, preconstruction, design oversight, and construction management teams to ensure that power strategies are integrated into site selection, development planning, and project delivery.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in transmission planning, utility interconnection, and large-load infrastructure development, along with strong relationships across utilities, regional transmission organizations (RTOs), and energy infrastructure stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
Power Strategy & Opportunity Development
- Lead the firm’s efforts to prospect and secure power opportunities that support data center development projects.
- Identify markets and locations where sufficient power capacity exists or can be developed to support hyperscale and AI-driven data center campuses.
- Evaluate transmission infrastructure, generation capacity, and utility expansion plans to inform development strategy.
- Advise clients on power availability, interconnection pathways, and infrastructure constraints affecting potential data center sites.
- Translate complex power system, regulatory, and market dynamics into actionable strategies for development teams and clients.
Utility & Infrastructure Engagement
- Develop and maintain executive-level relationships with utilities, transmission operators, and regulators.
- Lead engagement with utilities related to large-load service requests, interconnection strategies, and infrastructure planning.
- Support negotiations related to utility tariffs, special contracts, and service agreements required to support data center loads.
- Monitor utility and transmission planning initiatives that may impact power availability for large-scale developments.
- Coordinate with utilities and transmission planners to evaluate infrastructure upgrades required to support large electrical loads.
Interconnection & Transmission Strategy
- Guide clients through the utility and RTO interconnection processes required to deliver large electrical loads.
- Provide strategic oversight of feasibility studies, system impact studies, and infrastructure requirements associated with large-load interconnections.
- Advise on transmission expansion, substation development, and grid upgrades necessary to support large data center campuses.
- Evaluate transmission planning studies and interconnection queue dynamics to identify risks and opportunities for project development.
Client Advisory & Market Leadership
- Serve as a senior advisor to clients on power infrastructure strategies supporting data center development.
- Lead client engagement related to power availability, infrastructure planning, and utility coordination.
- Provide technical and strategic guidance during site selection, due diligence, and development planning.
- Support business development by participating in client pursuits, proposals, and strategic engagements.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Work closely with internal development, preconstruction, design oversight, and construction management teams to integrate power infrastructure planning into the overall project lifecycle.
- Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams supporting complex consulting assignments related to power infrastructure.
- Provide executive-level guidance on power-related risks affecting project feasibility, cost, or schedule.
- Support the development of internal best practices and market intelligence related to data center power infrastructure.
Requirements
- 15+ years of experience in power infrastructure, transmission planning, utility engagement, or energy strategy.
- Extensive experience supporting large-load infrastructure projects such as data centers, hyperscale campuses, or industrial developments.
- Deep understanding of electric power systems, transmission planning, and interconnection processes.
- Experience working with utilities, regional transmission organizations (RTOs), and energy infrastructure stakeholders.
- Proven ability to lead complex infrastructure initiatives involving utilities and large-scale power delivery.
- Strong negotiation and relationship management skills with utilities and regulatory stakeholders.
- Experience advising senior leadership and clients on complex power infrastructure decisions.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline
- Master’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related field preferred
